The main objective of the IPAI is to provide professional training for candidates of Patent Agent and Patent Attorneys and to assist candidates in obtaining qualifications necessary to practice as a Patent Agent under the Patent Act and Rules.

The emerging situation in the International scene after the ratification of the agreement for the establishment of World Trade Organization (WTO) including the agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), to which India is also a signatory country The profession of practicing as patent attorneys offers increasing opportunities in India and all the countries, who are signatories to the above-said agreement.

The Institute of Patent Attorneys India was founded in 2005 by Mr.K Radhakrishnan Nair; a leading Patent Attorney, It serves as a center of excellence in teaching, training, and research in Patent Laws and Practice. Hundreds of Students have cleared the Indian Patent Agent Exam through our past batches and all are well placed.

As per Patent Act only registered Agents are eligible to practice as a Patent Attorney in India. The Training Programme is designed in such a way that candidates having strong technical degree will be trained in Patent Laws and Practice to become competent IP Professional.

Patent Agents and Patent Attorneys

Indian Patent Attorneys called as Patent Agents are specialist legal advisors, similar to Lawyers, who advise their clients how to protect their intellectual property. Patent Attorneys work either in private firm of Patent Attorneys or in Patent Departments of large industrial Organizations. Patent Attorney’s day-to-day work generally involves drafting of patent specifications, making application for a patent, subsequent correspondence with the patent office on the objections raised, representing the applicant’s case at the hearings, filing opposition proceedings or defending an application against an opposition, all being of a highly technical nature is ordinarily entrusted to a qualified patent attorney. For the purpose of maintaining a high standard of efficiency and professional integrity the Patent Act has prescribed certain qualifications for persons practicing as Patent Attorneys and provided for their registration. The only person who satisfies that qualification and registered under the Patent Act are allowed to practice as Patent Attorneys in India.

Patent Law Books and Library

Our Library is well equipped with standard Patent Law Books available in India Some foreign Patent Law books are also available. DVDs and Intellectual property books from Japan Patent office are also available. WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) is also provided several Patent Law Books and Intellectual Property Books and study materials to our students and lecturers for references. Patent Agent Examination course is correspondence mode with contact classes. The study materials will be sent by courier/by registered post immediately after joining the course. 30 hours contact classes shall be conducted at New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.

Several International Patent applications filed by Mr. Nair according to Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) were published by International Bureau of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Geneva, Switzerland.
